McGrail Vineyards Patriot

Just over one year ago, on March 21, 2009, Sgt. Mark Dunakin, Sgt Ervin Romans, Sgt. Daniel Sakai, and Officer John Hege of the Oakland Police department were slain in the line of duty.  This tragic event caused pain in the lives of thousands.  It is a day that will not and should not be forgotten.

Tonight as I was picking out a bottle of wine to enjoy with Carl, I came across a bottle of McGrail Vineyards 2006 Patriot Cabernet Sauvignon that I purchased at McGrail’s during a fundraiser they were holding for the families of the slain Officers.  I am always impressed by those who set aside their desire for profit to help those who are truly in need.  As I opened the bottle I shared the story behind the bottle with Carl.  As I set the bottle down after pouring our glasses, Carl pointed out the notation on the back of the bottle, which I didn’t notice before.  It said the following:

“The Patriot wine is a tribute to the four fallen officers in Oakland, CA in 2009.  With deep roots in the police world, the McGrail family wanted to acknowledge all police officers for their continual efforts and support of our community.  A portion of proceeds from The Patriot will go to the families of the four fallen officers.  We salute you officers.”

After taking a sip of The Patriot Carl and I both agreed the taste was phenomenal.  This is a must buy.  I see a McGrail Winery visit in the Bryersantís future.
