Rodrigue Molyneaux Featured Winery

On a beautiful country road, off the beaten path, lies a gorgeous piece of property that Bryersantís recently discovered. Rodrigue Molyneaux Winery is located at 3053 Marina Avenue, tucked away between Arroyo Road and the Tesla end of Concannon.  We had the opportunity to meet with Lindsey, the Marketing and Sales Manager for the winery, to chat about the history of Rodrigue Molyneaux, the wines, and what makes them a “must see” destination for Livermore wine lovers.

The Rodrigues came to Livermore 35 years ago and Gary worked for the Lawrence Livermore Lab.  After retiring, Gary wanted to be a part of Livermore’s heritage and was fascinated by sustainable farming.  So, he and his wife purchased five acres in south Livermore in 1998 and began planting their vineyard.  Since the planting-to-bottling process takes a few seasons, the tasting room did not open for business until 2004.

On site, they grow Barbera, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Sauvignon.  The care of their grapes is very important at Rodrigue Molyneaux.  They make sure their grapes get optimal sun time by thinning and pruning the vines, leaves, and grapes during the summer.  The vineyard caretakers are highly trained to ensure that the grapes produce the best fruit possible.   Some fruit is purchased from other properties within Livermore and the Rodrigue family has found that control and timing of transportation are the key.   All of their wines are estate bottled.

In response to the question, what is special about Rodrigue Molyneaux, Lindsey provided us with the following response:

They exclusively craft Italian varietals such as Pinot Bianco, Chianti, and Cabernet Sauvignon.  Visitors of Rodrigue Molyneaux typically come to taste the Sangiovese and Barbera.  Their Cabernets are 100% Cabernet grapes.  They also produce Super Tuscan and Chianti style wines, which are blends of primarily Sangiovese.  Their Cabiovese, Bacasa, Cabernet are examples of this.  The 2005 Cabernet won the Silver Medal in the SF Chronicle Wine Competition and the 2006 Cab earned a Silver Medal in the California State Fair.

What types of wines should we expect to see in the future at Rodrigue Molyneaux?

During the next release party on June 5th Rodrigue Molyneaux will be releasing their Primativo (Zinfandel) and Il Segreto (a red wine cuvée).   In the fall they will be releasing their Nebbiolo and in the winter a warming Port.

The Rodrigue Molyneaux wine club has 3 distributions per year with 3 bottles per distribution.  The club is in its 3rd year and members enjoy events such as wine classes, vineyard tours and free tastings as part of their membership.  Each distribution typically includes newly released wines.  Free events, parties, and wine discounts are also benefits that club members receive.

On June 5th Rodrigue Molyneaux will be holding the Taste of Tuscany Release Party.  Besides the opportunity to try the new Primativo and Il Segreto, they will have live music by Tom Duarte.  There will be food stations and Hors D’oeuvres along with sale prices on wine.  They will also be releasing and tasting their Rodrigue Molyneaux Olive Oil.  The party begins at 12:30pm and ends at 5pm.  Wine club members are free.  Otherwise, the cost is $8 per person or $15 per couple.
