It's beginning to feel like Chardonnay weather

With the change in weather comes a change in wine choices.  For the most part, I tend to be attracted to a fruity, smooth red regardless of the circumstances.  However, when the weather starts getting warmer and the grilled chicken and veggies come out, it’s Chardonnay that grabs my attention.  I have had the opportunity to try some amazing Chardonnay’s this week.  About a month ago, I purchased the Green Eyes Chardonnay from the Livermore Grocery Outlet upon the recommendation of one of the owners.  Being that I am really picky about whites in general, I took it with a *grain of salt*.  I loved the price and decided it was worth a shot.  Tonight, as I celebrate the final day of the 2010 tax season, my family and I grabbed some pasta and salad from Strings in Livermore.  We brought it home and had a movie night.  Instead of grabbing a bottle of red wine to open, we chose the Green Eyes Chardonnay since we were consuming chicken and alfredo sauce.  Wow – I was really surprised at how good this was!  It is a 2008 Chardonnay cellared and bottled by the San Joaquin Wine Company in Madera, CA.  The label describes it as “offering bountiful notes of sweet pear, green apple, summertime melons, and a touch of tropical fruit”.  I would say it’s that and much more.  There is also a hint of oak at the finish.  A very well balanced chardonnay.  Although I do not recall the exact price, I believe it was either $3.99 or $4.99.  If the Livermore GO still has some, it is definitely one to try.

Cheers to summertime, BBQ and Chardonnay!
