Get ready all you pedal pushers and gear machines. The AMGEN Tour of California, America’s most successful cycling race, is coming back to Livermore. The city of Livermore is host city for the 4th stage of the tour so if you want to see some of the best cycling teams in the world, Livermore will be the place to be on May 18th. You can check out the stage route and get info on all of the activities surrounding the event on Livermore Downtown’s website.
The beginning of stage 4 starts downtown before heading down East Avenue past one of my favorite wineries, Cuda Ridge. If you want to have a great view of the cyclist battling for position Cuda Ridge’s tasting room property is one of the best places to be. Watch the race and then head into the tasting room, which is one of only two locations authorized to pour and sell “The Tour.” “What is The Tour,” you ask? It is none other than the commemorative Livermore wine created to memorialize the AMGEN race through Livermore. This wine is a red blend of Livermore grapes masterfully crafted by Cuda Ridge’s award winning winemaker, Larry Dino. It is made in the St. Émilion style and consists of 49% Cabernet Franc, 49% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 1% Petite Verdot.
If you can’t wait till the race, you might be able to get a sneak preview of “The Tour” at the Cuda Ridge tasting room or at the official sales location, the First Street Wine Company in downtown Livermore. According to Larry, this might be one of their best blends to date. My advice is to get in an buy your bottle or bottles of “The Tour” sooner than later because supplies are limited and this wine will sell out fast.
Remember to ride safe and drink good wine.
