Memorial Weekend at McGrail Vineyards

My friend Robyn does a little wine pouring at McGrail Vineyards and she recently told me that McGrail would be releasing their 2009 Casa de Vinas Petite Sirah this Memorial Day weekend.  When Rachel and I found ourselves with a free Sunday afternoon, we decided to take advantage of the opportunity to sneak out for a little wine tasting.

We arrived at McGrail at the same time as a tour bus, full of wine thirsty patrons, was pulling in.  We rushed inside to make sure we had a spot at the bar, but we soon learned that was unnecessary.  The McGrail staff was on top of things and the thirst of the crowd was quickly quenched.

The first wine we tasted was the 2009 McGrail family Chardonnay.  With just the right combination of oak and fruit flavors, this is one of the best Chardonnays I have tasted.  We moved onto the reds, which included The Patriot, a McGrail wine that has truly grown into a fantastic wine.  It was an obvious drink of choice for this Memorial Day weekend.

We finished off our tasting with the newly released 2009 Case de Viñas Petite Sirah.  This wine has great flavor.  It is still a little young, but with a little more age it is going to be phenomenal.

Thanks to McGrail for the great experience.  We can’t wait to go back.
