Fenestra 2006 Cab – Thatcher Bay Vineyard

Last month,  my sister gifted me with a beautiful basket full of goodies for my birthday.  There was everything from chocolate, crackers, and cheese to soaps, candles, and my favorite – a bottle of Fenstra’s 2006 Cab from their Thatcher Bay Vineyard.  I don’t recall having tried this one in their tasting room – they have so many good wines to choose from, by the end, I may have forgotten this gem.  Todd and I opened this last night, well after dinner was over and cleaned up.  Generally a Cabernet Sauvignon is not a sipping wine to be had without a meal to accompany it, but, I wanted to try it anyway.  I was completely surprised at how smooth and, dare I say, how light this Cab is.  The description on the back shows “It has a bright, floral bouquet of raspberry, current, black cherry, and lavendar.  It is full bodied with luscious, lingering flavors of cherry, spice, plum, and mocha.”  A very good wine!  It sells for $24 at the winery and has won the following medals:

Silver Medal, 2010 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Bronze Medal, 2011 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition

Bronze Medal, 2011 Riverside International Wine Competition

If you have not yet been to Fenestra, go check it out.  They are located at 83 Vallecitos Road in Livermore and are open Friday – Sunday from 12 – 5.  They have several wines to try, so bring a picnic and make an afternoon out of it.

Cheers to Fenestra!
