McGrail Release Party

With the children coming home from camp this afternoon Rachel and I still had a couple of hours of adult time. The night before, I heard that McGrail Vineyard was having a release party for their 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve. I had heard about the McGrail release parties and they were supposed to be phenomenal.

We arrived shortly after 12 and paid the $10 fee, which included the full tasting of McGrail wines and a McGrail wine glass for us to take home.  We wasted no time filling those glasses with the McGrail Family Chardonnay, which is one of my favorite Chardonnays.  The sun was out, there was a light breeze, the temperature was in the 80’s, and there were no clouds in the sky.  These were perfect conditions for enjoying a little wine tasting on the McGrail lawn.

The entertainment for the afternoon was live music by the Bacchus Brothers whose lead singer is Mark Clarin, a great winemaker in his own right.  The food for the event was provided by Scotty’s Catering and the smells coming from there tent were mouth watering.  Rachel and I decided on a pulled pork sandwich and a tri-tip sandwich from Scotty’s.  We found a table on the lawn and enjoyed the music and wine as we consumed our delicious sandwiches.

I enjoyed each of the wines on  the McGrail flight.  Both Chardonnays and the Rose were perfect for the warm weather.  The Patriot Cabernet Sauvignon, already an awesome wine, continues to get better and better.  I especially enjoyed the newly released 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve.  This wine is bound to sell out quickly.

Cheers to another beautiful day in Livermore and a fantastic time at McGrail Winery.  The festivities continue on Sunday so get out there and have some fun.
