Wood Family Vineyards 8th Annual Release Party A Big Hit

A couple of weeks ago Rachel and I had the opportunity to take our family to Mexico for a week of relaxation and fun in the sun.  On this trip we decided to splurge on the all inclusive plan, which really paid off.  We thoroughly enjoyed the margaritas and all of the other umbrella drinks by the poolside and we were excited when we learned that one of the restaurants was featuring a five course meal, which was paired with some Mexican and South American wines.  The meal was fantastic, but the wines unfortunately did not live up to our expectations.

We arrived home on Saturday tired from our beautiful vacation.  It was then that we remembered this was the weekend that Wood Family Vineyards was hosting their 8th annual release party.  After a wonderful time at our private tasting with Rhonda (The Wood) in June, we knew we couldn’t miss this event, which featured the release of the 2010 “Para Mas Amigas” Chardonnay, the 2008 Thomas Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2009 Petite Sirah, and the 2009 “Muy Bueno” Zinfandel.  Unfortunately, we missed Saturday’s live music by Patty and Abigale, but I was excited to hear Tank Half Full play on Sunday.

Sunday afternoon was a rare occasion as the whole Bryersantís gang was able to make it out to the Wood Family release party.  The weather was beautiful.  It was warm, but not the sticky hot we left in Mexico.  Rachel and I met up with Carl, Julia, Todd, and Jenny and we picked up our Wood Family glasses to enjoy some amazing wine.  The Chardonnay was light, well balanced, and perfect for the warm summer day.  The name of the Chardonnay, Para Mas Amigas, did stir up some questions within our group as to whether or not drinking the Chardonnay would really get us more girlfriends.  The Cabernet Sauvignon, Petite Sirah, and Zinfandel (definitely Muy Bueno) were each amazing.  Rhonda is among those Livermore winemakers who are taking Livermore wine to the next level, which is going to put Livermore on the map as one of the top wine regions.

The highlight of our afternoon was when we had the opportunity to take a picture with Rhonda in front of the Woody.  This was Bryersantís’ second annual visit to the Wood Family release party and it won’t be our last.  Wood Family does not have a tasting room, but Rhonda is more than willing to host a private tasting for you and your friends.  Her wine can also be found at many of our local Livermore restaurants including Swirl and at the First Street Wine Company in downtown Livermore.
