Yay Fall! Yay Me!

Oh boy do I love autumn! Especially after a hot summer it feels wonderful to throw on a cozy sweater, make hot tea and sit by a warm fire. I also love how pretty the Livermore Valley is right now with all the colors changing on the vines and the sky mixed with rain clouds and sunshine. Harvest in full swing. The wineries are bustling with activity. It’s such a great time of year!

This Friday the girls, Jenny, Julia and myself, gathered for lunch at one of our favorite places, The Grill at Wente Golf Course. Soup, sandwiches, and a bottle of Riva Ranch Chardonnay on the table made for a perfect afternoon. When we finished lunch we decided it was time to see a place we hadn’t really had a chance to experience yet, Mitchell Katz Winery. We’ve all been to the Palm Event Center for special events and the place is absolutely breath-taking. This is a great place for parties and weddings and the wine we always hear is fantastic too. So, off to the tasting room we went.

I was impressed right off the bat with the tasting room. It’s lovely with a beautiful brick fire place, which is where I wanted to end up, but first we needed to try the wine 😉 I was impressed with all of the wines including the sparkling. It was very, very, good, and $13 a bottle is a fantastic price. (It would make a great present for the holidays, which are right around the corner!) I loved everything else we tried, but decided to take home a bottle of the 2009 Yay Me! Zin. I admit the name was what caught my attention, but it really is a wow kind of wine and knew I should take some home to share with Ken. Mitchell Katz is doing a phenomenal job making a good name for the Livermore Valley. Check them out when you can. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
