Sneak Peek: Longevity Petite Sirah

One of the perks of hanging out with the winemakers of the Livermore Valley is that often times we have the opportunity to taste wine before it has been released.

If you have followed our blog, then you have heard us sing to praises of the small Livermore Valley winery, Longevity Wines, which has become one of our favorites. Several weeks ago I had the opportunity to help Longevity with the bottling of their 2009 Petite Sirah. During the bottling process I had the opportunity to taste the Petite Sirah and all I could think at the time was that it was perhaps one of the best wines that has been produced by Longevity. It has a slight fruity taste on the front end with a bold mouth feel and smooth finish. My corking arm was tired after we finished bottling, but the fatigue faded as Phil and Debra Long offered me a bottle of the Petite Sirah as thanks for my help.

I received some bad news yesterday that put me in a bit of a down mood so when Rachel told me we were invited to have diner with the Bryersantis gang I was happy to be able to hang out with the people who always seem to raise my spirits. I wanted to bring a bottle of Livermore wine over to share with the group and my thoughts immediately went to the still unreleased Longevity Petite Sirah. It was the obvious choice since none of them had tried it yet.

For dinner we had some marinated tri-tip, grilled zucchini, and a tossed green salad. The crowning jewel of that dinner however, was the Longevity Petite Sirah. The praise for this wine was unanimous. The friends, the dinner, and the wine were just what I needed to help lift my spirits.

The Petite Sirah is still unreleased, but we will be sure to let you know when that status changes. After we get a couple of cases for ourselves of course.
