McGrail Vineyard’s 2008 Livermore Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve

If you recall, I blogged about McGrail Vineyard taking the Top Red category in the  in the 2012 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition back in January.  In my blog I mentioned that I didn’t have a chance to taste it.  Let me tell you, it was worth the wait.  I had the opportunity to enjoy a glass of the Top Red Winner last week.  Possibly one of the best Cabernets I’ve had in a while.

Hints of dark cocoa, and full bodied.  The first sip was almost shocking to my palate, again haven’t tasted a cab like this in quite a while.  Berries and spice to the taste but not so sweet.   Almost floral when I had it with some steamed muscles and garlic.  The flavors of this cab only intensified with every bite and as it sat in my glass.  A wonderful red to enjoy with food that has a kick, like the Asiago cheese plate that I also enjoyed with this wine.

Get out to McGrail and try.  They are located at 5600 Greenville Road  Livermore, CA 94550.  Join them Friday through Monday at their tasting room from 12pm to 4:30pm, or by appointment.  Cheers!
